SUMMARY:Integrated Behavioral Health: Reflections from a 10-Year Implementation
DESCRIPTION:Listen to a conversation between the psychologist and physician champion who implemented Integrated Behavioral Health in a pilot study and then throughout the Kansas City Metro in a fully-capitated advanced primary care practice coupled with an insurance product.  Review core concepts and the rationale of the Primary Care Behavioral Health model.  Successful hiring and barriers to implementation are discussed by the professionals who led this effort together. \nSpeakers: Debra McQueeney\, Ph.D.\, Dr. Rebecca Gernon \nDebra McQueeney\, Ph.D.\, pioneered the integration of behavioral health in the Kansas City area\, beginning with a pilot study of the PCBH model in a large primary care practice. The clinical and financial effectiveness of this program was published\, and subsequently adopted in nine primary care offices across Kansas City (Spira Care). \nDr. McQueeney has served patients in multiple settings ranging from the VA Hospital System to private practice in her 40 years of practicing.  She is an expert in the treatment of anxiety\, relational distress and life transitions.  She is particularly attentive to the intersection of physical and mental health. \nShe is currently engaged as a provider for Sailor Health\, an organization committed to serving an older population.   \nShe serves on the boards of Prairie Sky Counseling Center in Kansas City and the Epworth Church Association in Ludington\, Michigan\, where she spends her summers. \n  \nDr. Rebecca Gernon is a board-certified Family Medicine physician who completed a Master’s in Public Health @ Boston University prior to entering medical school at the University of Kansas.  She has practiced Family Medicine in academic\, community\, and managed care settings since finishing her residency in 2001 with a clinical focus on integrating behavioral health into the practice of primary care. Following a successful integrated primary care pilot as the “physician champion” she pivoted towards the practice of population health/managed care as Medical Director in the Blues\, first as a reviewing clinician and later as the chief clinical leader of a fully-capitated advanced primary care practice integrated with an insurance product in the Kansas City Metro. She is now working at another Blues plan\, where she continues learning the business of healthcare from the perspective of a clinical appeals specialist catching all healthcare stakeholders in the act of doing good on a daily basis.   \n  \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Treating Substance Use Disorders in the Collaborative Care Model
DESCRIPTION:Co-occurring substance use disorders (SUDs) and mental health conditions are common in primary care and can be challenging to identify and treat without integrated support. Join us for this engaging webinar exploring how the Collaborative Care Model (CoCM) and other integrated behavioral health approaches can help primary care providers screen for\, diagnose\, and treat SUDs alongside mental health conditions\, using evidence-based practices that support whole-person\, team-based care. \nSpeaker: Jennifer Thomas\, MD\, FASAM \nDr. Jennifer Thomas\, MD\, FASAM is board-certified in family medicine and addiction physician and currently serves as Medical Director of Integrated Behavioral Health at Morris Hospital in Morris\, IL. She completed her medical degree at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield\, IL in 2007\, and completed her family medicine residency at Hinsdale Hospital outside Chicago in 2010.  \nDr. Thomas practices in a community-based\, rural setting and is passionate about integrating behavioral health services into primary care. She completed the 2018 University of California Irvine Train New Trainers Primary Care Psychiatry Fellowship. As a leader in developing partnerships between academic research settings and community-based providers\, Dr. Thomas works closely with the University of Washington AIMS Center. Dr. Thomas serves as Project Lead for Morris Hospital’s partnership with the AIMS Center’s NIMH-sponsored research study CHAMP: Collaborating to Heal Addiction and Mental Health in Primary Care. As an advocate for increasing access to medication for Opioid Use Disorder\, particularly in rural settings\, Dr. Thomas was part of an inaugural cohort of 5 IL physicians supported by ISAM to become board certified in Addiction Medicine through the ABPM Practice Pathway. Dr. Thomas also serves as the National Medical Co-Director for Integrated Care at the Collaborative Family Healthcare Association. Dr. Thomas is also a Senior Fellow for Health System Integration at the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute.  \nRegister Here
