SUMMARY:Treating Substance Use Disorders in the Collaborative Care Model
DESCRIPTION:Co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions are common in the primary care setting.  Join us for this engaging webinar where we will highlight how CoCM can also help PCPs screen for\, diagnose\, and treat SUDs in primary care.  \n\n\n\nLearning Objective 1: Review best practices for screening and diagnostic criteria for SUDs \n\n\n\nLearning Objective 2: Discuss evidence-based treatment options for people living with substance use disorders (SUDs) \n\n\n\nLearning Objective 3: Discuss how integrated behavioral health models\, such as the Collaborative Care Model ( CoCM)\, can address co-occurring mental health disorders and SUDs in the primary care setting. \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Jennifer Thomas\, MD\, FASAM  \n\n\n\nDr. Jennifer Thomas\, MD\, FASAM is board-certified in family medicine and addiction physician and currently serves as Medical Director of Integrated Behavioral Health at Morris Hospital in Morris\, IL. She completed her medical degree at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield\, IL in 2007\, and completed her family medicine residency at Hinsdale Hospital outside Chicago in 2010.  \n\n\n\nDr. Thomas practices in a community-based\, rural setting and is passionate about integrating behavioral health services into primary care. She completed the 2018 University of California Irvine Train New Trainers Primary Care Psychiatry Fellowship. As a leader in developing partnerships between academic research settings and community-based providers\, Dr. Thomas works closely with the University of Washington AIMS Center. Dr. Thomas serves as Project Lead for Morris Hospital’s partnership with the AIMS Center’s NIMH-sponsored research study CHAMP: Collaborating to Heal Addiction and Mental Health in Primary Care. As an advocate for increasing access to medication for Opioid Use Disorder\, particularly in rural settings\, Dr. Thomas was part of an inaugural cohort of 5 IL physicians supported by ISAM to become board certified in Addiction Medicine through the ABPM Practice Pathway. Dr. Thomas also serves as the National Medical Co-Director for Integrated Care at the Collaborative Family Healthcare Association. Dr. Thomas is also a Senior Fellow for Health System Integration at the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute.

DESCRIPTION:This interactive\, lively workshop teaches participants how to first recognize stress and then provides practical\, easy-to-use tools that are proven to reduce stress and increase energy to get through the busiest of days.  By the end of this training\, all participants will: \n\n\n\n\nWalk away with their own toolkit of practical stress management strategies that can be used in any situation\n\n\n\n\n\nGain a deeper understanding of stress and our stress responses\n\n\n\n\n\nImmediately notice the difference in stress levels by practicing 4-6 stress management tools via live demonstration\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker: Penelope Hsu\, MD\, PCC \n\n\n\nPenelope Hsu is a board-certified\, practicing pediatrician. She is also accredited as a Professional Certified Coach by the International Coaching Federation\, as well as a proud card-carrying member of the Screen Actors Guild. Her current practice includes clinical pediatric care as well as a cultivated list of private coaching clients. He structures courses as learning journeys for the student and less as faculty lectures. He is particularly interested in teaching principles of social and life course epidemiology. \nResearch Overview \nDr. Amick’s research includes both observational and interventional studies in which he has developed and implemented multiple programs in hospitals\, businesses\, and community organizations. He is focused on developing new cohorts of cancer survivors in Arkansas to explore differences in health disparities.
