Dr. Patty Gibson, Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder of ABHIN, has been busy this fall advancing integrated behavioral health! In this article for the Arkansas Medical Society Journal, Dr. Gibson talks about the challenges and opportunities of integrating behavioral health care and primary care. While most mental health care is already being done by PCPs, “The problem is many don’t have the training to feel comfortable with it. Many need more education in best practices to screen patients for mental health issues and develop a plan for their patients. Part of the solution for PCP’s can be building relationships with mental health specialists or hiring specialists to assist them in their practices.” Dr. Gibson’s expertise in integrated behavioral health is a huge asset to primary care teams and as well as to patients in Arkansas.
