Speakers: Daniel Sumrok, MD
This presentation explores the neurobiology of substance use disorders, emphasizing the role trauma plays in shaping maladaptive responses and the importance of trauma-informed care. In addition to examining the fight, flight, and freeze response and the reinforcement of substance use through reward and relief mechanisms, Dr. Sumrok presents data on how various traumas have been linked to adverse health outcomes. Designed for healthcare decision-makers, Dr. Sumrok’s presentation highlights the importance of addressing root causes of substance use rather than just symptoms, equipping teams with strategies to implement effective, trauma-informed care practices.
